Epidendrum pseudepidendrum (the "False Epidendrum Epidendrum") is a species of orchid native to Costa Rica and Panama. The upright canes, which can reach 5 ft., bear paniculate inflorescences which can re-bloom for several years. According to Reichenbach, the strange name is the result of first being named Pseudepidendrum spectabile, before being moved to Epidendrum. The species E. xanthoianthinum Hágsater (1993) was first described as a gold variety of this species, with the name E. pseudepidendrum var. auratum Rchb.f. (1885).
How to keep Epidendrum Pseudepidendrum.
Water
Epidendrum pseudepidendrum thrives in humid environments, such as tropical rainforests. To keep it healthy, it requires watering every week, making sure to avoid both drought and overwatering. As an evergreen plant, it needs consistent moisture throughout the year, especially during cooler months, to prevent its leaves from dropping.
Pruning
Pruning Epidendrum pseudepidendrum is crucial for promoting healthy growth and improving flower quality. Key techniques involve removing dead stems and thinning out dense areas to improve air circulation. The best time to prune is in early spring, which helps support healthier growth and enhances overall appearance.
