### Elaeocarpus decipiens: The Japanese Blueberry Tree

Elaeocarpus decipiens, commonly known as the Japanese blueberry tree or Blueberry ash, is a small to medium-sized evergreen tree belonging to the Elaeocarpaceae family. Native to Japan and Taiwan, this tree has been widely cultivated around the world for its ornamental value. It can grow to a height of 10–15 meters and features a dense, rounded crown of glossy green leaves that are elliptical and measure about 5–10 cm in length.

In spring or early summer, the Japanese blueberry tree produces small white flowers, which are followed by blue-black berries resembling blueberries, although they are not edible. The plant thrives in well-drained soil with full sun exposure but can also tolerate partial shade.

Its attractive foliage makes the Japanese blueberry tree a popular choice for hedges or screens in ornamental landscaping. Additionally, its dense canopy provides shelter for birds and other wildlife.

In traditional medicine, the bark of Elaeocarpus decipiens has been used to treat various ailments such as fever, coughs, and colds. However, scientific research on these medicinal uses is limited.

Overall, Elaeocarpus decipiens is a beautiful evergreen tree with striking foliage, making it an excellent choice for landscaping while also offering shelter to wildlife.
