ON THIS PLANT

Daviesia ulicifolia, commonly known as gorse bitter-pea, is a species of flowering plant in the family Fabaceae and is endemic to south-eastern Australia. It is a rigid, openly-branched shrub with sharply-pointed, narrow elliptic, narrow egg-shaped, rarely egg-shaped phyllodes and usually orange-yellow and dark red flowers.

A note from PlantMom

Gorse bitter pea shows strong resistance to disease and is typically not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of upkeep, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. Planted outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger specimens usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be cut back after they have finished blooming. Gorse bitter peat is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or a deck, and does not demand extensive care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Daviesia Ulicifolia.

Light

Gorse bitter pea comes from open habitats, such as sunny meadows and the edges of forests, where light is abundant. It thrives in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adjusting well to a range of sunlight conditions.

Temperature

Gorse bitter pea is highly adaptable to a variety of climatic conditions, from blazing summers to cold winters. However, it has a preferred temperature range for healthy growth. If temperatures become too high, the plant is susceptible to heat and humidity stress, which can cause it to die. In locations where temperatures reach the lower edge of its cold tolerance, providing insulation is important to protect the plant.

Fertilizer

Fertilize your Gorse bitter pea in early spring to encourage healthy growth. Consistent fertilization boosts overall health, producing vigorous growth, greater resilience to harsh conditions, and improved resistance to diseases and pests. Keep a specific fertilizing routine for your Gorse bitter pea to maintain foliage that is vibrant, richly colored, and lush.
