ON THIS PLANT

Davidsonia pruriens, also known as ooray, Davidson's plum, or Queensland Davidson's plum, is a medium-sized rainforest tree of northern Queensland, Australia. The leaves are large and compound. The edible dark burgundy colored fruit is produced in large clusters from the branches or the trunk, depending on the type. There are at least two distinct forms, with a suggestion that one of these is an undescribed species. The indigenous name - ooray - is being increasingly used by growers and processors.

A note from PlantMom

Do-rog exhibits strong disease resistance and is typically not susceptible to illnesses. As for care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only light watering, and larger specimens generally do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Do-rogt is well suited to anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand much prior care experience.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Davidsonia Pruriens.

Light

Do-rog is native to habitats like forest understories or rocky areas, which provide natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can tolerate full sun or full shade, demonstrating its versatility and hardiness.

Temperature

Do-rog adapts well to temperature, able to endure higher heat and wider temperature fluctuations. In hot conditions, attention should be paid to watering and suitable shading provided to avoid sunburn. However, Do-rog is relatively intolerant of low temperatures. It can handle a limited amount of cold, but extremely cold conditions can cause frost damage.

Fertilizer

The Do-rog plant needs adequate nutrients for the best fruit production. Fertilize in early spring to encourage new growth and bloom development. Regular fertilization keeps the plant healthy, yields more delicious fruit, and prevents nutrient-deficiency problems like yellow leaves and poor fruit production.
