ON THIS PLANT

Cyperus alopecuroides, commonly known as the foxtail flatsedge, is a sedge of the family Cyperaceae that is native to parts of Africa, Asia and Australia.

A note from PlantMom

Foxtail flat sedge has strong resistance to disease and is generally not prone to it. In terms of care, this plant is relatively low maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs minimal watering, and larger plants usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have finished blooming. Foxtail flat sedge is suitable for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not require much experience in plant care.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Cyperus Alopecuroides.

Light

Foxtail flat sedge is a sun-loving, perennial herbaceous plant native to open habitats, often thriving in meadows and grasslands. It prefers full sun but can also tolerate partial sun.

Temperature

Foxtail flat sedge shows good temperature adaptability, able to tolerate higher heat and wider temperature fluctuations. In hot weather, attention should be given to watering and providing suitable shade to prevent sunburn. Conversely, Foxtail flat sedge is relatively poorly tolerant of low temperatures. It can endure some cold, but overly cold conditions may cause frost damage.

Fertilizer

Foxtail flat sedge needs extra nutrients to encourage healthy new growth. In spring, adding compost around the base of the plant will supply the nutrients it requires. Fertilizing helps support vigorous growth and improves the plant's ability to withstand diseases and pests.
