ON THIS PLANT

Conoclinium coelestinum, commonly known as blue mistflower or wild ageratum, is a perennial herbaceous plant that belongs to the Asteraceae family. Native to North America, it thrives in various habitats, including meadows, prairies, and along stream banks.

The plant can grow up to 3 feet tall and has a spreading habit with numerous branches. Its lance-shaped leaves have serrated edges and are arranged in an opposite pattern along the stem. From mid-summer through fall, it blooms with clusters of small blue or lavender-colored flowers that resemble mist.

Blue mistflower is particularly attractive to pollinators such as bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds, thanks to its nectar-rich flowers. In addition to its ornamental value, the plant has medicinal properties; traditionally, its leaves have been used to treat respiratory ailments like coughs.

This low-maintenance plant prefers moist soil but can tolerate drought conditions once established. It also grows well in both full sun and partial shade.

Overall, Conoclinium coelestinum is a beautiful addition to any garden, offering attractive foliage and vibrant blooms. It also provides ecological benefits by attracting pollinators to your garden space.

THE NAME

The Blue Mistflower gets its name because it was once classified in the Eupatorium genus. This plant features clusters of vibrant blue, violet, or white flower heads. Each flower has numerous thin and long petals, giving it a misty appearance. The blue color of the flowers is why it's called Blue Mistflower.
