ON THIS PLANT

Cherleria obtusiloba is a perennial alpine herb known by the common names alpine sandwort and twinflower stitchwort. It is native to the mountains of western North America from the High Sierra of California to the Colorado Rockies north to Alaska, and to far northeastern Russia. This is a low plant forming mats or clumps and bearing small thimble-shaped flowers with curving white petals.

A note from PlantMom

How to keep Cherleria Obtusiloba.

Light

Water

Cherleria obtusiloba, a plant native to alpine regions, thrives in well-draining soils with periodic moisture. It does best with moderate hydration, typically needing weekly watering. Adapted to outdoor mountain climates, this plant efficiently retains water, making it ideal for rock gardens that replicate its natural high-altitude environment.

Fertilizer

A single fertilizer application in spring is generally enough for Cherleria obtusiloba, though repeated feedings can increase growth. Feed about every month to six weeks. Fertilization improves leaf appearance and function, helping maintain uniform color and a healthy texture. It also encourages root development and better nutrient uptake for the plant's long-term health.

Pruning

To promote healthy growth in Cherleria obtusiloba, it is recommended to prune the plant from early to late spring. Start by removing any dead or diseased branches, and then lightly trim the plant to encourage denser foliage. Make cuts just above healthy buds, being careful not to over-prune. Always use clean, sharp tools to minimize the risk of infection and improve air circulation.
