ON THIS PLANT

Myriopteris lanosa, the hairy lip fern, is a moderately-sized fern of the eastern United States, a member of the family Pteridaceae. Its leaves and stem are sparsely covered in hairs, but lack scales, hence its common name. One of the cheilanthoid ferns, it was usually classified in the genus Cheilanthes until 2013, when the genus Myriopteris was again recognized as separate from Cheilanthes. It typically grows in shallow, dry, soil, often in rocky habitats.

A note from PlantMom

The slender lip fern is fairly resistant to disease and generally not susceptible to illnesses. However, it can be affected by pests and diseases present in its environment, though these problems are typically mild. For care, the plant requires moderate maintenance. It should be pruned regularly to preserve a neat appearance and support healthy growth. Fertilizing can also aid in encouraging flowering. The slender lip fern is appropriate for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or patio, and does not demand extensive experience in plant care. It may need more attention if grown indoors.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Cheilanthes Lanosa.

Light

The slender lip fern is indigenous to habitats like forest undergrowth or rock-strewn zones, where it receives organic shade. It favors a partial sun exposure, although it manifests its flexible and robust character by adapting to complete sun or absolute shade.

Temperature

The Slender lip fern is capable of acclimating to a variety of temperature conditions, though its dispersal could still be restrained by various water and heat conditions mixtures. It prospers optimally in hot weather throughout the summer, provided sufficient precipitation or artificial hydration is available. Extended periods of overcast and wet weather, in addition to sustained high temperatures, can raise the probability of the Slender lip fern's death. During the winter months, appropriate protection from the cold can boost the plant's chances of survival.

Fertilizer

Typically, a solitary application of fertilizer in the spring season is enough for Slender lip fern, but to boost its growth to its maximum, more frequent feedings are beneficial. Consider providing nutrients once every month or one and a half months. Fertilization improves the look and functionality of the leaves, maintaining a constant color and healthy constitution. Furthermore, it encourages the growth of roots and the intake of nutrients, resulting in the endurance of the plant's health in the long run.
