ON THIS PLANT

Goeppertia crocata (syn. Calathea crocata), the saffron-coloured calathea, is a species of flowering plant in the family Marantaceae, native to Bahia and Espírito Santo states of eastern Brazil. It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit as a hothouse ornamental.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Calathea Crocata.

Humidity

This plant needs special care because it loves high humidity levels of 60-80% or more. The best way to achieve this is by placing a humidifier near the plant. Daily misting is also essential! Make sure the room has good ventilation.

Temperature

This plant may thrive at ordinary room temperatures as long as there are no unexpected temperature fluctuations. Never store your eternal flame in a room with a temperature below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Calatheas need a high amount of humidity to avoid developing pests. Every few days, mist your plants to maintain high humidity levels.

Fertilizer

Eternal flames do not need much fuel to remain blazing. In general, a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted by half and administered weekly throughout spring and summer is optimal. Just be careful to cease applying liquid fertilizer during the plant's dormant autumn and winter months.

Pruning

The Calathea Crocata requires less trimming until the leaves get diseased, change color, or die spontaneously. The leaf must be removed from the stem and discarded. Once the flower has ceased to bloom, remove the flower stalks from the plant.

Toxicity

Not only are the leaves and flowers of Calathea crocata very attractive to humans, but also to animals. Kids and animals alike may enjoy playing with the Eternal Flame Plant's velvety leaves and blossoms. Do not be alarmed if they do, as the Calathea Crocata plant is perfectly harmless, non-toxic, and poses no danger to dogs or children.
