ON THIS PLANT

Cadaba farinosa is a 2–8 m (6.6–26.2 ft) high evergreen shrub or small tree that belongs to the caper family. It has simple ovate leaves with entire margins, zygomorphic, spidery, greenish, yellowish, whitish or pinkish flowers, and is covered in powdery hairs or scales, particularly the younger parts. It can be found in a zone from Senegal to India between the desert and the savanna.

A note from PlantMom

Cadaba is disease-resistant and, in general, not susceptible to illnesses. With regard to care, the plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs little watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. Cadabat is suitable for anyone who has outdoor space, such as a garden or a deck, and it does not demand much experience in plant care.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Cadaba Farinosa.

Light

Cadaba is native to open habitats, such as sunny meadows and forest margins, where light is abundant. It flourishes in Full Sun but can also tolerate Partial Sun, adjusting well to different sunlight conditions.

Temperature

Cadaba comes from tropical areas where the climate is generally warm and humid. As a result, it is adapted to high temperatures and humidity. It is sensitive to sudden temperature changes and prefers a steady temperature, so indoor temperature fluctuations should be avoided. It normally cannot tolerate cold and needs higher temperatures to grow. If the surrounding temperature falls too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.

Fertilizer

The optimal time to fertilize a Cadaba is in early spring when it comes out of dormancy. This encourages overall growth and aids flower development. Fertilization improves foliage, stems, and branches, and promotes flowers that are large, vibrant, and long-lasting. It also helps transport nutrients from the roots to the flowers and enhances the plant's health and resistance to disease.
