ON THIS PLANT

Bursera graveolens, commonly known as Palo Santo, is a tree native to South America. It belongs to the same family as frankincense and myrrh. This tree is renowned for its aromatic wood, which has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and spiritual practices. Palo Santo wood has a sweet, woody aroma that is believed to have therapeutic properties. It has been used in aromatherapy to promote relaxation, reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, boost immunity, and relieve pain. In addition to its medicinal benefits, Palo Santo wood plays a significant role in spiritual practices such as shamanic rituals. The smoke from burning the wood is believed to cleanse negative energy from a space or person. The Bursera graveolens tree can grow up to 30 feet tall and produces small white flowers that bloom during the rainy season. It is typically found in the dry forests along the Pacific coast of South America, spanning from Ecuador to Peru. Due to over-harvesting for its prized aromatic oil and incense, Palo Santo is now considered an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). To ensure its sustainability, it's crucial to support products made from sustainably harvested Palo Santo oil or those that utilize sawdust instead of whole trees. This approach helps prevent further decline of this valuable species and promotes its conservation.
