Brachyglottis repanda (rangiora or bushman's friend) is a small, bushy tree or tall shrub endemic to New Zealand. It grows to a height of 5 to 7 meters. The petioles of the leaves have a characteristic groove up to 10 cm long. The large leaves with a soft furry underside have been referred to as "bushman's toilet paper". Other common names in Māori (beyond rangiora) include: kōuaha, pukapuka, pukariao, puke-rangiora, raurākau, raurēkau, whārangi, or whārangi-tawhito.
Hedge ragwort demonstrates strong resistance to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have bloomed. Hedge ragwortt is appropriate for anyone with an outdoor area, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand much care experience.
How to keep Brachyglottis Repanda.
Light
Hedge ragwort does best when it gets plenty of sunlight, though it can also tolerate moderate light levels. In its natural environment it frequently grows in open areas where sunlight is abundant. Excessive exposure or an inadequate amount of light can negatively affect its health and growth.
Temperature
Native to temperate climates, hedge ragwort grows best in temperatures of 59 to 95 °F (15 to 35 ℃). During colder seasons, provide a warmer environment, while in hotter periods protective shading may be required.
Fertilizer
Timing is essential for fertilizing Hedge ragwort. Start in early spring and continue once a month up to early summer. Fertilizer encourages attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth stages.
