Cranfillia fluviatilis, synonym Blechnum fluviatile, is a fern known in the Māori language as kiwikiwi. A herbaceous plant, C. fluviatilis is a "hard fern" of the genus Cranfillia in the family Blechnaceae. It was identified by Patrick Brownsey in 1979. Other common names are star fern, creek fern, kawakawa and kiwakiwa.
Kiwakiwa is resistant to disease and, in general, is not susceptible to illnesses. In terms of care, this plant is fairly low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have finished blooming. Kiwakiwat is appropriate for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand extensive care experience.
How to keep Blechnum Fluviatile.
Light
Kiwakiwa prospers in locations where sunlight is diffused or scattered, though it can also endure areas with reduced light. Its natural habitat consists of environments with minimal sun exposure. Excessive sunlight can impede its growth, while inadequate light may cause the plant to exhibit weak vigor.
Temperature
Kiwakiwa is indigenous to regions with moderate temperatures between 59 and 95 °F (15 to 35 °C). It favors milder conditions. Seasonally, temperature adjustments may be necessary to fully meet its preferred range.
