Aquilaria malaccensis is a species of plant in the Thymelaeaceae family. It is found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand. It is threatened by habitat loss. The World List of Threatened Trees (Oldfield et al., 1998) listed Iran as one of the countries with a population of A. malaccensis, but an exploratory 2002 CITES review confirmed that Iran has no record of the species. As a result Iran is no longer considered as habitat for or producer of agarwood.
The Malayan eaglewood tree is resistant to disease and is generally not susceptible to illnesses. Regarding care, this plant is relatively low-maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs minimal watering, and larger specimens typically do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they finish blooming. The Malayan eaglewood tree is suitable for anyone with outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not demand much care experience.
How to keep Aquilaria Malaccensis.
Light
Malayan eaglewood tree naturally occurs in habitats such as forest understories and rocky areas, where it experiences natural shade. It prefers partial sun but can tolerate full sun or full shade, reflecting its adaptable and hardy nature.
Temperature
The Malayan eaglewood tree comes from tropical areas, where the climate is generally warm and humid. Consequently, it is well adapted to high temperatures and humidity. It does not tolerate abrupt temperature changes and prefers a stable temperature environment, so it is important to avoid temperature fluctuations indoors. It usually cannot withstand cold temperatures and requires higher temperatures for growth. If the environmental temperature drops too low, the plant may stop growing or even die.
Fertilizer
Fertilizing is essential for caring for the Malayan eaglewood tree. Regularly providing nutrients during the growing season preserves the energy needed for its showy foliage and promotes overall growth. If fertilization is overlooked, leaves can become unhealthy, the plant’s ornamental value may decline, and growth can be stunted or weak and more likely to break.
