A note from PlantMom

Hummingbird agave has moderate resistance to disease but is more sensitive to high humidity and overwatering. It is also more likely to develop disease when it receives insufficient light and is overwatered. Regarding care needs, Hummingbird agave is drought-tolerant and can go long periods without water. It requires little fertilizer and only occasional pruning. Because of these characteristics, it is suitable for people of all experience levels, especially those who prefer to spend less time tending plants and who may sometimes be away from home for extended periods. It is a good option for anyone who does not want to devote a lot of time to plant care but still wants an easy-to-maintain plant.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Agave Polianthiflora.

Light

Originating in dry regions, Hummingbird agave performs best in full sun, as its natural habitat is marked by strong sunlight and very little shade. It can also tolerate partial sun, providing some flexibility in its growing conditions.

Temperature

Hummingbird agave does best in warm conditions and needs higher temperatures during the growing season to support growth and metabolism. It prefers plenty of sunlight, proper moisture, and good air circulation. However, it can be damaged by very low temperatures and by overwatering. It’s important to maintain balance and avoid both excessively high temperatures and overly dry conditions.

Fertilizer

For Hummingbird agave, small amounts of fertilizer applied once or twice a year during the growing season are enough. Do not fertilize in winter or in summer while the plant is dormant. Cut back on feeding for repotted plants and wait a couple of months after repotting before applying fertilizer. Fertilizing helps keep the plant healthy and encourages it to bloom.
