ON THIS PLANT

Agave guadalajarana is a smallish Agave species endemic to Mexico. It is native to the Guadalajara region of Jalisco state, and the Ceboruco volcano area of Nayarit state.

A note from PlantMom

Agave guadalajarana has moderate resistance to disease but is more vulnerable to problems from high humidity and overwatering. It becomes especially prone to illness if it is kept in low light and is overwatered. Regarding care, Agave guadalajarana is drought-tolerant and can go long stretches without water. It requires little fertilizer and only occasional pruning. Because of these traits, it is appropriate for gardeners of any skill level, particularly for those who prefer low-maintenance plants or who may be away from home for extended periods. It is a suitable option for people who do not want to devote much time to plant care yet still want an easy-to-maintain plant.

CARE GUIDE

How to keep Agave Guadalajarana.

Light

Originating in arid areas, Agave guadalajarana performs best in full sun, as its natural habitat features intense sunlight and little shade. It can also tolerate partial sun, offering some flexibility in its growth.

Temperature

Agave guadalajarana grows best in warm conditions and needs higher temperatures during the growing season to support growth and metabolic activity. It prefers plenty of sunlight, proper moisture, and good airflow. However, it can be harmed by very low temperatures and by overwatering, so it's important to maintain balance and avoid both excessive heat and excessive dryness.

Fertilizer

For Agave guadalajarana, light applications of fertilizer once or twice a year during the growing season are adequate. Do not fertilize in winter or summer, when the plant is dormant. Use less fertilizer on recently repotted specimens and wait a couple of months after repotting before you begin fertilizing. Fertilizing helps maintain healthy growth and promotes flowering.
