Acacia floribunda is a perennial evergreen shrub or tree. It is a species of wattle native to New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, but is cultivated extensively, and has naturalised in South Australia, Tasmania and Western Australia, and also in Indonesia, Mauritius and northern New Zealand. Common names for it include gossamer wattle, weeping acacia and white sallow wattle. It grows up to 6m in height, but there is a commercial form available which only grows to about 1m tall. Its cream-colored flowers occur in the early Spring (August to September in the southern hemisphere).
Gossamer wattle is resistant to disease and is generally not prone to illnesses. In terms of care, this plant is relatively low maintenance. When grown outdoors it needs only minimal watering, and larger plants usually do not require pruning. Smaller plants, however, should be pruned after they have finished blooming. Gossamer wattle is suitable for anyone with an outdoor space, such as a garden or deck, and does not require much care experience.
How to keep Acacia Floribunda.
Light
Gossamer wattle comes from open habitats, like sunny meadows and forest margins, where light is abundant. It performs best in Full Sun but will also tolerate Partial Sun, showing flexibility across different light conditions.
Temperature
Gossamer wattle shows strong adaptability to temperature, able to endure high heat and wide temperature fluctuations. In hot weather, care should be taken with irrigation and providing adequate shade to avoid sunburn. However, Gossamer wattle is relatively sensitive to low temperatures. While it can tolerate some cold, very cold conditions can cause frost damage.
Fertilizer
The timing of fertilizing Gossamer wattle is important. Apply fertilizer in early spring and repeat monthly through early summer. Fertilizer promotes attractive blooms and supplies energy during both dormant and active growth phases.
